TECHNICAL NOTES
Growing Season - The Willamette Valley experienced a dry August, September, and October in 2022, with October being the hottest on record. Although this helped ripen grapes at the time, the combination of dry soils through October and a large 2022 crop resulted in vines starting the 2023 season in a deficit of potassium, nitrogen, and carbohydrate reserves. A very cold and wet spring 2023 resulted in the latest budbreak in quite some time, and it stayed cold and rainy past July 4th. After that summer weather was ideal until a hot streak in August, where temperatures reached 107 degrees. This caused some heat damage in the form of shrivel but there was not a big impact on quality overall. Harvest of Pinot Noir started in the first week of September and continued sporadically thereafter due to rain events that occurred later in September. Generally, fruit was of very high quality with moderate to low sugars, and good acidity and pH. (Summarized from Oregon Wine Board’s 2023 Oregon Harvest Report)
Composition -100% Pinot Noir
Winemaking - Pinot Noir fruit was harvested on September 13th and inoculated with W15 yeast the same day. During 14 days of primary fermentation the must was pumped over once per day and punched down once per day. The must was then pressed and wine racked to tote. After settling, the wine was racked to barrel where malolactic fermentation occurred. The wine aged for approximately 15 months in neutral French oak and was racked three times prior to bottling in December 2024. The wine was not fined or filtered.
Cooperage - DAMY (neutral)
