Our 2024 Viognier comes from fruit grown at Cougar Hills Vineyard and Noble Rocks Vineyard, both in the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. The two vineyards, just a few miles apart, sit at elevations above 800 feet with soil composition that consists primarily of Ritzville loam mixed with deep layers of gravel river rock. The "own-rooted" vine are more than 20 years old.

TECHNICAL NOTES
Growing Season - The 2024 growing season in Walla Walla Valley was a story of resilience following a catastrophic start. In mid-January, an extreme cold event saw temperatures plummet to as low as -14F leading to bud death and trunk damage in several vineyards. Higher elevation sites and Rhone varieties were hit particularly hard. The subsequent growing season was "refreshingly normal," resulting in high-quality fruit for both red and white varieties. Harvest conditions were described as "ideal." Warm dry weather in September and October provided long hang times, allowing winemakers to pick at peak phenolic maturity. Despite lower yields, the quality is considered outstanding. ( Summarized from reports by the Washington State Wine Commission, SIP Magazine, and Northwest Wine Report.)
Composition - 100% Viognier
Winemaking - This Viognier fermented in stainless steel tanks with Rhone 4600 yeast at temperatures near 50 degrees. The cool temperature allows for a long fermentation during which the lees are stirred regularly to supplement body and mouthfeel. The wine was clarified with bentonite and then filtered prior to bottling in June 2025.
Numbers - Alcohol 14.1%
